【Artwork Introduction】

“Did you know that this planet is made of gems? The story begins with this question.

All living things born on this planet eventually return to the earth.

Plants, insects, and even we animals all go back to the soil. Even the dinosaurs that once roamed the Earth long ago have returned to the ground. Their presence remains as fossils or as layers in the earth.

Memories and wishes may also remain in the soil.

Our small memories and gentle wishes might also be preserved, embedded in the minerals within the earth as traces of our lives.

What if gemstones could store memories?

This story asks: What if even our little memories were recorded in jewels? It imagines Earth itself as a time capsule filled with everyone’s memories.

4.6 billion years, told through four seasons.

The story divides Earth’s 4.6-billion-year history into four seasons, showing how the memories of the creatures that lived in each age are embedded in gemstones.

A beautifully detailed and humorous picture book.

The living creatures, plants, and events of each era are illustrated in fine detail. The book is not only beautiful but also full of humor, making it an imaginative and delightful read.

この作品は、「皆さんはこの星が宝石でできていると言うことを知っていますか？」という問いかけから始まります。この地球に生まれたすべての生き物――植物や昆虫、そして私たち動物も、やがて土に帰ります。かつて地球を歩き回っていた恐竜たちも、今では化石や地層の一部として、存在の痕跡を残しています。

そして、私たちの思い出や小さな願いもまた、土の中の鉱物に刻まれているのではないか――そんな想像がこの作品のテーマです。

「もし宝石の中に生き物たちの思い出がインプットされていたら？」

この星(地球)そのものが、みんなの記憶を詰め込んだタイムカプセルのようだと、物語は語ります。

作品では、46億年にわたる地球の歴史を「春・夏・秋・冬」の4つの季節に分け、それぞれの時代に生きた生命の記憶が宝石に込められている様子が描かれています。

作者は、登場する生物や植物、自然現象を丁寧に調べ、当時の時代背景を細やかに、そしてユーモアを交えて美しく表現しています。子供から大人まで、絵を見て、絵の中の矢印を追いながらこの本に描かれている世界観をお楽しみください。
